Prototyping Identity: PI is comprised of two 6 x 4 x 5 inch plaster sculptures of my thumbprints prototyped with a Z Corp. 3D printer. Pieces started as ink prints, were brought into Photoshop enlarged and inverted, then displaced and volumized in 3-D design software Rhino, and finally printed on a Z Corp. at Skysong in Scottsdale, AZ. "We proceed from an actual economic fact. The worker becomes all the poorer the more wealth he produces, the more his production increases in power and size. The worker becomes an ever cheaper commodity the more commodities he creates. The devaluation of the world of men is in direct proportion to the increasing value of the world of things. Labor produces not only commodities; it produces itself and the worker as a commodity – and this at the same rate at which it produces commodities in general." -Economic and Philosophical Manuscripts of 1844. Karl Marx.
