Feigning an unbiased documentation of "reality" and of the "natural" and "built" environments, the video is an unedited recording of a brief pause spent with a friend on the Tempe Butte. Not to play neo-hippy, pseudo theoretician here, but I'd like to suggest that this single-channel video challenges notions of "reproduced realism" through the questioning of various connotations of "true" experience. What is an original experience? Is there such a thing as unbiased media? Does 7m19s really portray what I experienced first-hand at Tempe Butte? And if so, did you get high? I mean, really really high, man? (And I of course mean, in a Pony Boy, "high on life" kind of way. |
